Mary Allegra Stiff (Foreman)

Mary Allegra (Stiff) Foreman, 67, Mt. Vernon, Illinois,  died Tuesday October  4, 1983 in Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.  Graveside services in Oakwood Cemetery with Dr. Billy G. Hahs presiding.

Mrs. Foreman was born October 29, 1915 in Jasper County, the daughter of Cranston C. and Mary Ella Wilson Stiff.  She married Henry E. Foreman February 5, 1944 and he preceded her in death October 9, 1944.

She was a school teacher for 38 years in Jefferson County and retired in 1976, after having taught English at Mt. Vernon Township High School for 31 years.

She was also a member of the Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem Chapter 30 in Benton; the National Retired Teachers Association; and the Good Samaritan Auxiliary.  She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Alice Sollman, Princeton, Ind.; two nephews, C. David Stiff, Mt. Vernon and Steve Stiff of Champaign; a niece, Mrs. Doug (Susan) Miller, Fisher; two great-nephews and three great-nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother, Cranston Stiff.
