Ralph Richard Wendling

Ralph R. Wendling, 88, of Olney passed away Monday, November 30, 2015.  Funeral services at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home with burial in Haven Hill Memorial Garden.

Ralph was born November 3, 1927 in Clay County, Illinois, the son of August and Clara (Poehler) Wendling.  He married Janet Hill on June 18, 1955 at Saron Church in Dundas, IL.  She survives.

Ralph spent 34 years in the educational field as teacher, coach, and principal at Calhoun, Dundas, and Central Schools. Ralph enjoyed volunteering and helping in the community. He served at the Olney Senior Citizens Center and the Good Samaritan of Richland County. Ralph served in numerous capacities at the First Church in Olney. His strong faith was demonstrated through his volunteering and commitment to serving others. Ralph was an avid fan of U of I athletics. He was also a lifetime fan of the STL Cardinals. Ralph was a member of First Church of Olney.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janet Wendling of Olney; daughters, Joyce Michels and husband Terry of Olney and Julia Grove and husband John of Paducah, KY; son, Warren Wendling of Indianapolis, IN; sister, Marjorie White of Tallula, IL; brother, Curtis Wendling of Olney; grandchildren, Nathan Michels, Sarah (Dan) Sumpter, Emily Michels, Jennifer Grove, Sean Wendling, and Grace Wendling, and one great grandson on the way; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Wendling and sister, Dorothy Wendling.

Jerry Hart (1967)

Mr. Wendling was the boys 7th & 8th grade basketball coach at Calhoun.He always had a roll of Lifesavers in his pocket. Thank God for sending you to guide all the students lives you have touched over the years.
