Maxine Seymour Shafer Class of 1945Maxine F. Shafer, 89, of Olney, died Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Burgin Manor.  Services at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home with burial at Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney.

Maxine was born August 15, 1927 in Olney, the daughter of Harry and Margaret (Goss) Seymour. She married Joseph L. Shafer on January 4, 1946. He preceded her in death on November 12, 2013.

Maxine retired from the Richland County Court House where she worked as a deputy clerk for over 20 years. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, and wintering in Florida.

Maxine was a member of First United Methodist Church in Olney, the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and the Olney Quilters Guild.

She is survived by her daughter, Carla Gardner and husband Gary of Olney; son, Randy Shafer and wife Carolyn of Olney; daughter, Jana McGregor and husband Jason Ingram of Olney; grandchildren, Tom (Jaime) Novak of Tolono, Becky (Buck) Mitchell of Noble, Kenneth Shafer of Arizona, Nathan McGregor of Clay City, Todd McGregor of Olney, Cindy (Jerry) Brian of Terre Haute, IN, and Steve (Cassie) Gardner of Olney; great grandchildren, Korie and Kameron Novak, Cody and Haley Mitchell, Shyloh and Rylan McGregor, Kelli Stewart, Gary Brian, and Caleb and Shelby Gardner; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Shafer of Mt. Vernon, IL; Gary and Nova Shafer of Morton, IL, Roberta Shafer (Jesse Smith) of Texas, and Glenn (Verna) Shafer of Olney; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant grandson, Stephen Novak, mother-in-law, Mabel Acklin, father-in-law, Harold Shafer, brothers-in-law, Eddie Williams and Don Shafer, and sister, Joan Williams.
