Mrs. Roberta Kurtz Dies After August 11 Shooting

Mrs. Roberta E. (Roth) Kurtz, 48, of Allen, Michigan died in University Hospital, Ann Arbor, of gunshot wounds suffered August 11 at her residence.

The shooting is said to have occurred at 11:10 a.m. following a domestic quarrel. Officials report that Roberta Kurtz was shot in the front of the neck by a shotgun. She died September 14, 1975 after being hospitalized for more than a month.

Junior Laverne Parney, 41, is charged with first-degree murder. Parney was arrested by Michigan State Police at the time of the shooting and has been held in the Hillsdale County jail since his arrest.

Mrs. Kurtz was born in Stringtown, Illinois and resided in Quincy before moving to Allen.

Funeral services for Roberta Elizabeth (Roth) Kurtz, 48, were held September 17, 1975 at the St. Charles Catholic Church, Coldwater, where she was a member, with the Rev. Fr. Donn Taylor in charge. Burial in Lakeview Cemetery in Quincy, Michigan.

Mrs. Kurtz was born February 28, 1927 in Stringtown, northeast Richland County, a daughter of Martin and Ida Roth. She married Carl Kurtz on July 5, 1947 and he died in 1972. Her parents also preceded her in death.

Among the survivors are four sons, Michael, James and Kenneth all of Quincy, Mich.; and Donald of Los Angeles, Calif.; five daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Schadler and Brenda both of Wayne, Mich., Sandra of Tucson, Ariz., Cynthia and Pamela both of Quincy, Mich.; and two grandchildren.

Also surviving are five brothers, Virgil Roth of Olney, Jerome Roth of Los Angeles, Calif., Harold Roth, Jerry Roth and Vincent Roth all of Monroe, Mich.; and two sisters, Mrs. Julietta Riggs of Olney and Mrs. Marjorie Sampson of Monroe, Mich.
