James Edward Delzell, 101, of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2022. Jim was born on July 7, 1920 in Olney, Illinois, the son of Harry Edward and Charlotte G. (Ferren) Delzell. He married Virginia Hahn, and she preceded him in death on March 1, 2021.

Jim served state side in the US Army/Air Force during WW II. After returning from the service, he worked for the General Telephone Company in Olney and retired in 1976. After retirement he enjoyed living in Arizona for 8 years and finally settled in Greensboro, NC. He was a lifelong Olney Elks Club member. Jim enjoyed music, dancing, hiking, and Taekwondo. One of his favorite pastimes in his later years was leading the Senior Citizen Exercise classes. Jim especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Jim’s smile and charm will be missed by all those that knew him.

Jim is survived by his son, Stephen Delzell and wife Kathy of Greensboro, NC; son, Christopher Delzell of Greensboro, NC; son, Peter Delzell and wife Lynn of Mt. Holly, NC; grandchildren, Jim, John, Leslie, Michael, Lindsey, and Samantha; 8 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two brothers, Robert and Loren Delzell.

Cremation rites were accorded for both Jim & Virginia Delzell.

A graveside committal will be held for Jim and Virginia at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 8, 2022 at St. Joseph Cemetery in Olney, Illinois, with Father Mark Stec officiating.
