Burl E. Petty, 76, of Urbana, died Wednesday January 26, 1994 at Covenant Medical Center in Urbana.  Funeral services at Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana with Rev. Morrie Christman officiating. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana.

Petty was born June 11, 1917 in Richland County, the son of Harry and Sylvia (Pauley) Petty. He married Opal Richey on August 18, 1939 in Henderson, Ky. She died December 18, 1992. He married Barbara Craddock on September 12, 1993, in Urbana.

He was an ombudsman at the University of Illinois for 37 years and a courier at the Bank of Illinois for 13 years.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Dennis Petty of Champaign, Duane Petty of Lincoln and Larry Petty of Rockford; a daughter, Judith McQueen of Urbana; a brother, Kenneth Petty of Olney; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Petty was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and a brother.
