Katherine Belle Spitz, 82, of Claremont, died Saturday May 31, 2003 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.  Funeral services at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Olney with Reverend Father Jerry Wirth officiating. Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Olney.

Mrs. Spitz was born on June 27, 1920 in Richland County, the daughter of James Durrell and Margaret Elizabeth (Steward) Moore. She married Verner Joseph Spitz on April 14, 1942. He preceded her in death on May 12, 1982.

She was a retired driver's license examiner for the Illinois Secretary of State office in Olney. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olney and Richland County Democrats.

Mrs. Spitz is survived by four daughters, Elizabeth "Libby" Deimel and her husband, Leo of O'Fallon, Evelyn Deimel and her husband, Gilbert of Springfield, Barbara Leaf and her husband, Jim of Springfield and Suzy Spitz of Escondido, Calif; a son, John Spitz of Oblong and 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son, James.
