Ruth E. Phipps, 79, of Olney, died at 6 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at her son's residence, south of Sumner.  Services at Zirkle Funeral Home in Olney with Pastor Ted Kemp officiating. Burial in Crest Haven Memorial Park, east of Olney.

Phipps was born Jan. 2, 1919, in West Salem, the daughter of Lee and Avada (Fuller) Duncan. She married Robert Phipps July 20, 1948, in Olney. He preceded her in death Oct. 7, 1997.

She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Olney, Delta Theta Tau and Richland Post #30, American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by one son, Don Elliott, of Sumner; one daughter, Donna Sue Pottoroff, of Sun City, Ariz.; and five grandchildren, Deborah McLaughlin, Terri Stepan, Mike Elliott, Elizabeth Tewell and Peter Harms.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Harvey and Virgil Duncan.
