Paul Dorney

Colonel Paul Arthur Dorney, 78, U.S.A.F. retired, passed away September 12, 1997. He was born in Cordell, Oklahoma, June 12, 1918. He lived in Olney, Illinois the years of his youth, attending the University of Illinois. His career ambition was to fly. He achieved this by joining the U.S. Army as a flying cadet in September, 1940, receiving his wings and commission April 25, 1941 in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served 30 years with the U.S.A.F. in varied assignments in and out of the continental U.S.A., graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, his experience outside of flying type duties, was in the field of logistics. He accumulated over 7200 flying hours in over 40 different types of aircraft. He was awarded the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and various other service and campaign medals.

He was active within the civilian community, after retirement, in volunteer efforts and community relations. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, the Air Force Association and the Daedalions. His hobbies were varied, mainly active sports, hunting, fishing, golf, swimming and wood working.

He was married to the former Anne Wilkinson in November 1941, who is deceased. He is survived by three children, Patricia Driggs, Michael Dorney and Pamela Peel; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey C. and Matilda (Mehmert) Dorney.

Memorial services held at Leak-Memory Chapel with burial in the Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport, Louisiana.
