Nova Varner (Benson) - Class Of 1935

Nova Suzanne Benson of Sequim died October 30, 2008, of age-related causes at 90.

She was born November 3, 1917,  in Wayne County, Ill., to James Alva and Eva (Ramsey) Varner.

She earned a bachelor's degree at Eastern Illinois University. She married Menzel A. Benson in Alexandria, La., on Oct. 16, 1943; he died June 8, 1973. Mrs. Benson, who worked as a paralegal and secretary in Louisiana and Illinois, and was owner and operator of Maple Point Resort in Eagle River, Wis., for 23 years. In addition to belonging to Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority, she was a member of First Methodist Church of Canton, Ill., and First Congregational Church of Eagle River, Wis.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law James and Nan Benson of Sequim, daughter and son-in-law Susan and Lawrence Heisler of Sparta, N.J., and four grandchildren.
