Carl Henry Pflaum - Class Of 1935

OLNEY - Carl Henry Pflaum, 88, of Olney died Sunday (Aug. 17, 2003) in Richland Care and Rehab, Olney.  Services in Summers-Kistler Funeral Home, Olney, with the Rev. Scott Carlson officiating. Burial in Haven Hill Cemetery, Olney.

Memorials toParkinson's Disease Association for Research or Hospice of Southeastern Illinois.

Mr. Pflaum was born Aug. 30, 1914, in Olney, the son of Adam and Dora Eilenstein Pflaum.

He was a farmer and served as a substitute rural postal carrier for several years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Olney, and a life member of Olney Elks Lodge 926.

He married June Lee Gallagher on Feb. 15, 1947, in Olney.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years; daughters, Kathy L. Slankard and husband Jimmy of Olney; Karla M. Hocking and husband Robert Steven of Mount Carmel; son, Robert H. Pflaum and wife Sally of Decatur; grandchildren, Kyle C. Slankard of Murphysboro; Deidre K. Slankard of Olney; Robert Sean Hocking of Mattoon; Nathan P. Hocking and wife Angela of Livermore, Calif.; Trenton R. Pflaum and Emily J. Pflaum, both of Decatur; great-granddaughters, Isabella and Amelia Hocking of Livermore. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bess Delzell, Pauline Lyttle, Elsie Tennyson, Willimena Griffith and Katherine Walter; and brother, Valentine Pflaum.
