James C. Higgins, 83, of Clinton, died Tuesday Feb. 12, 2002 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.  His funeral held at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with Ernie Harvey, Jr. officiating. Burial in Haven Hill Cemetery, Olney.

He was born Dec. 25, 1918, at Olney, a son of James I. and Bertha Chaplin Higgins. He married Verlyn Michael on Nov. 18, 1938, at St. Louis, Mo. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Susan Higgins, Johnson City, Tenn.; and Deborah Wasson, Bryan, Ohio. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Rebecca Wasson, Ypsilanti, Mich.; and Jessica Wasson, Bryan, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Higgins was employed in management for GTE Corp. and was a member of Eastview Christian Church, Bloomington.
