Clara Balmer (Treece) - Class Of 1932

Clara Louise Balmer Treece, 83, of Chicago, formerly of Olney died Tuesday January 5, 1999 at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago.  Graveside services at Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney with Rev. Herman Gumble officiating.

Mrs. Treece was born  January 27, 1915 in Olney, the daughter of William Tell and Harriet (Foster) Balmer. She married Walter Allen Treece in 1942. He preceded her in death in 1995.

She was a retired school teacher at several schools including West Salem and Martinsville. She did volunteer work for Teen Challenge and Contact, a telephone counseling service. She had a bachelor's degree with honors in mathematics from Eastern Illinois State Teachers College in Charleston. She was an active church member working with Bible school and Walk to Emmaus Program.

She is survived by two sons, John Treece and his wife, Marci Eisenstein of Chicago and James Treece and his wife Kathryn of Tokoyo, Japan; two daughters, Margaret Metzger and her husband, A. Keene of Brookline, Mass. and Donna Treece and her husband, Stewart Jacobson of Springfield; one sister, Anna Balmer Rose of Atlanta, Ga.; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
