Alfred Andreae - Class Of 1932

KEWANEE, IL - Alfred M. Andreae, 94, of Ely, Mn. and formerly of Kewanee, Il. died Friday, August 28, 2009 at the Ely Bloomenson Community Nursing Home in Ely.

Alfred was born September 5, 1914 in Evansville, In. the son of John A. and Amalia (Merkle) Andreae.

He graduated from Olney High School and was a graduate of Illinois State Normal University Class of 1937 where he was a member of three honorary fraternities: Pi Omega Pi, Pi Gamma Mu and Theta Alpha Phi. He was an active participant in the University Theater for three years. Alfred was also a graduate of Lockyear's Business College, International Accountants Society and had graduate study in Accounting at the University of Illinois. Alfred retired June 30, 1974 from Kewanee Manufacturing Company where he had been Secretary-Treasurer and Controller. Prior to moving to Kewanee in 1956, from Washington, Il. he had been an accountant with Gauger and Diehl in Peoria. Previously he was the commercial teacher at Saunemin High School.

He married Dorothy Frances Beckwith of Toluca, Il. on June 1, 1938 in Jacksonville, Il. She preceded him in death on April 10, 2003 in Kewanee. He was also preceded in death by his parents and an only brother Ralph.

Surviving are two sons Stephen M. (Josephine) Andreae of Burbank, Ca., and Alan B. (Nancy) of Ely, Mn. Also surviving are grandchildren, step grandchildren, great grandchildren, step great grandchildren and nephews.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kewanee, former treasurer and board member of the Kewanee United Fund and was a member of the Marshall-Putnam Farm Bureau.
