Mildred Metzger (Shacklee) - Class Of 1932

Mildred "Millie" A. Shacklee, 93, of Marengo, Illinois, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, in her home in Marengo. She was born Mildred Lucille Shaffer in Alcony, Ohio, on Sept. 18, 1912. Mildred was adopted at age 3 by Lewis and Martha (Barron) Metzger. She was renamed Mildred Alma Metzger.

Mildred attended Cherry Street School in Olney and graduated from Olney High School in 1932.  She married William L. Shacklee in Olney on Sept. 9, 1933, and they had seven children. Millie worked 30 years at Arnold Engineering in Marengo. She served as financial secretary for the AM Local Lodge 832 for 12 years. She was a faithful servant to her Lord from the age of 14. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Belvidere for many years.

She is survived by sons, Billy J. (Jane) Shacklee of Williamsville, Mo., and Robert L. (Judy) Shacklee of Rockford; daughters, Jackie Williams of Marion, Ky., Susan Chappel of Belvidere and Sally (Robert) Millikan of Marengo. Mildred was blessed with 32 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren;six great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and many great-nieces and nephews and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William in 1971; sons, Jimmy Lee in infancy, and Frank Edward Shacklee in 1991; great-grandson, Christopher Dale Wood in 1996; granddaughter, Mally Marie Millikan in 2005; great-grandson, Corey Farel in infancy; great-great-grandson, Caleb Weathers in infancy; and a dear friend of many years, Jessie Hindman.

Service in Bible Baptist Church in Belvidere.  Interment in Highland Garden of Memories in Belvidere.
