Charlene Totten (Graper)

HAUBSTADT, Ind. - Charlene Genevieve (Totten) Graper, age 94, died Sunday, February 24, 2008, at Westpark Rehabilitation Center.

The daughter of Charles Augustus Totten and Fannie Mae (Stivers) Totten, she was born July 27, 1913, in Olney, Illinois. On December 25, 1934, she was married to Cleophas Melvin Graper of Haubstadt, Indiana.

He preceded her in death on October 6, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Victor Charles, three brothers and two sisters, and a grandson, Anthony Bruce Scott. She leaves to mourn her: daughters, Cleoramae (Alta) Stunkel and Margi Lee (Eldon) Scott; a grandson, Trevor Allen (Peggy) Scott; and great-grandsons, William Paul Scott and Samuel Wyatt Scott.

Charlene was a longtime member of New Liberty New Light Christian Church and currently was a member of Salem Church of Darmstadt. She was also a member of the Haubstadt PTA and the New Liberty Homemakers Club. Her interests included flower gardening, needlecrafts, reading, especially poetry, and Bible study. She was known to family and friends as a lover of jokes. She often said how much she loved her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Motherhood was her chosen profession. Her fondness for young people was also indicated by her long-term commitment as a Sunday school teacher.

The funeral will be held at Salem Church of Darmstadt . The Reverend David Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Fort Branch, Ind.
