John W. Lehwald

John William Lehwald, 74, former Olney basketball star, of River Forest, Illinois died Saturday, December 15, 1984 in Sun City, Arizona while vacationing there. Funeral services at First Presbyterian Church of River Forest.

He was born November 18, 1910 in Olney a son of Herman A. and Lily (Walker) Lehwald. He married Marie Hueglin, who survives.

He was an all-state center for the Olney basketball team in 1930 and second in the state tournament and team captain.

He graduated from the University of Illinois and John Marshall in Chicago with a law degree. Mr. Lehwald was the owner-president of Mid-State Wire Processing Company in Chicago; the past owner-president of Wire Steel Works; past owner-president of Tri-Apco Wire Company of Chicago; past president of Woven Wire Products Steel Association; past president of the Edgewater Lions Club in Chicago; an elder and deacon of the board of trustees of River Forest; Curling Club captain and state runner-up in tourney.

He is survived by his widow, Marie; two sons, Charles and John W. Jr.; two daughters, Carol Dull and Mary Lofgren; five brothers, Carl, Herman, Howard, George, and Richard; four sisters, Louise Hersman, Mary Williams, Helen Davis, and Dottie Thompson and 13 grandchildren.
