Fern Elizabeth McElwain, 71, of Zionsville, Ind., died Monday, November 19, 2001, at her home.  Burial in Zionsville Cemetery.

Mrs. McElwain was born on November 26, 1929, in Parkersburg, the daughter of Clinton and Golda Kinkade. She married Harry L. McElwain. He survives.

She was a retired high school teacher after 40 years, 35 of those years were spent at Danville, Ind. community schools. She was a member of Zionsville United Methodist Church, Indiana State Teachers Association and Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority.

Mrs. McElwain is survived by her husband, Harry L. McElwain; a daughter, Lou Anne McElwain; a son, Robert E. McElwain; a daughter-in-law, Jayne McElwain; three sisters, Ethel Luthe, Lelah Luthe and Ruby Knust; a brother, Russell Robbins; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah L. Anderson and Mildred Huchel.
