Barbara Ulrich ChaplinBarbara Chaplin, 84, Belle Fourche, South Dakota, went to be with Jesus on July 14, 2015, surrounded by family and friends who loved her. She was a resident at the assisted living facility of Belle Estate in Belle Fourche for the past two years.

Barbara was born May 21, 1931 in Olney, Illinois to Everett and Lola Ulrich. She graduated from Olney High School in 1949 and married Otis Chaplin on June 12th of that same year. They recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.

She and Otis moved many times during their 66 years of marriage, going first from Illinois to the oil fields of Abilene, TX. They were stationed at the Great Lakes, Ill. during the Korean War, when Otis was called back to the Navy in 1951. That was followed by returning to oil field related work in Worland, WY, Wells, NV, Tioga, ND and Williston, ND. After another 11 years in Minot, ND, they moved back to Illinois where they lived from 1975 – 2013. Barbara spent her last two years in Belle Fourche, SD in the assisted living facility of Belle Estate.

Barbara held many jobs through the years, including that of a credit clerk, nurse’s aide, office work, and a variety of other jobs.

Barbara enjoyed traveling, time with family and friends, cooking and entertaining, decorating her home with different themes for every season (especially Christmas), eating out, and shopping. Church was always important to her, but her relationship with Jesus especially grew in her last days.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one son Neal Chaplin, and one grand-daughter Heather Chaplin.

Grateful for having shared her life, Barbara is survived by her husband of 66 years, Otis Chaplin of Belle Fourche, SD; son, Mark (Ruth) Chaplin of Belle Fourche, SD; brother, Paul (Phyllis) Ulrich of Olney, IL; daughter-in-law, Roxana Chaplin; two grand-daughters, Vanessa Wells and Danielle Chaplin; two great-grand-daughters, Kylar Worstell and Delilah Wells, all of Lawrenceville, IL; one brother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service at the Calvary Temple Assembly of God, Spearfish, SD, with Pastor R. Mark Chaplin officiating. Burial at a later date in Olney, Illinois.
