Bob Kowa

Robert G. Kowa, 60, of Decatur died Saturday (Nov. 9 1991) in St. Mary's Hospital. Services in Grace United Methodist Church. Burial in Mount Gilead Cemetery.

Mr. Kowa was born in Olney on July 15, 1931, son of William and Bessie Seiler Kowa. He graduated from Millikin University in 1952, where he was a Small College All American basketball player. The 1950-51 Millikin basketball team on which he played was inducted into the State Basketball Hall of Fame. Mr. Kowa was also an I.H.S.A. basketball and football official. Kowa was inducted into the Millikin Hall of Fame, scoring 606 points his senior year at Millikin—a 26.3 point average that ranked him 10th in the nation among small college players. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, serving in various capacities. Before being employed at Huston-Patterson, he was the personnel director at Mississippi Valley Structural Steel. After joining the firm of Huston-Patterson in 1961, he expanded his printing interests to include Kowa Graphics of Champaign, Sigma Graphics of Ottawa, Kowa Press of Chicago Colortek of Elk Grove Village and R & S of Danville. He was a former board member of Printing Industries of Illinois. He was also a member of South Side Country Club and on the board of directors of the First National Bank of Decatur.
 
He married Katherine "Kem" Miller in 1971. He is survived by his wife; sons, Thomas W. and wife Susan L. Kowa of Decatur Douglas Dechert and wife Lori of Newnan, Ga.; Steven R. Kowa of Laurel, Md. daughters, Cynthia Lynne Kowa Basler and husband Jeffery of Oregon, Ill. Debbie E. Teike and husband Mark of Davenport, Iowa; nine grandchildren brother, Dale E. Kowa and wife Marjorie of Durham, N.C.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Carl.
