George Corrie

George Corrie, Jr., age 78 of rural Charleston, died on Friday (July 24, 2009) at his residence.  Graveside Services at Liberty Cemetery in Hutton Township with Pastor Lowell Burrus and Pastor Ray Finney officiating.

George was born in Bridgeport, Illinois on September 9, 1930, a son of George R. and Nellie Corrie. He married Joan Ingram in Charleston on May 2, 1954 and they have lovingly shared fifty-five plus years of marriage and friendship.

In addition to Joan he is survived by two daughters, Lynn Irvin and Lisa Corrie, both of Bloomington, Illinois; one son, Dan Corrie and his wife Cindy of Charleston; five grandchildren; a sister, Dee Nicklasson of Bonaqua, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

George graduated as an accounting major from Eastern Illinois University with his B.S. in 1953. Following his graduation he served with the United States Army for two years and after being discharged from active duty, he was employed in Decatur in the accounting department of Western Electric. In 1958, he and Joan moved to Charleston where he was employed for ten years with the former Coles County Building & Loan Association. In 1968, he opened George Corrie Accounting in his home and continued to work full-time until his death. During his career, he continued his accounting education and completed three semesters at the University of Illinois.
