Francis E. “Gene” Dean, 85, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, in Olympia, Washington.  Funeral arrangements by Funeral Alternatives of Washington, Lacey, WA.

He was born December 7, 1930, in Parkersburg, the son of Howard Dean and Wilma Cowan Shultz. Gene spent his youth in Southern Illinois, Richland County. He spent his working years in Steward and Lockport. He retired to Anacortes, Wash., in 1988 and spent his last nine years in Lacey, Wash.

 He graduated from Olney Township High School in 1948. Gene married Stella Weinzierl on October 17, 1952, in Dixon.

Gene worked for the railroad in Northern Illinois, and Material Service Rock Quarry in Lockport. He retired from Argonne National Research Laboratory in Lemont.

Gene loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed playing card games, Western movies and billiards.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 63 years Stella R. Dean, of Lacey, Wash.; son, James (Roma) Dean, of Salem, Iowa; daughter, Nancy (Bob) Pope, of Lacey, Wash.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four brothers; and one sister. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, two-- sisters and a brother.
