Bernard Joseph Herman, 73, of Flora, formerly of Olney died Thursday May 29, 2003 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.  Funeral services at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olney with Reverend Father Hyacinth Mazuchowski and Reverend Father Jerry Wirth officiating. Burial with full military graveside rites by Olney veterans in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Olney.

Mr. Herman was born on September 11, 1929 in Richland County, the son of Otto and Elizabeth (Muhs) Herman. He married Anna Mary "Anna May" Klein on April 19, 1952. She survives.

He was a retired farmer, a U.S. Air Force veteran and a lifetime member of American Legion. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olney and was also a member of St. Stephens Catholic Church in Flora.

Mr. Herman is survived by his wife, Anna May Herman of Flora; five sons, David Anthony Herman and his wife, Rhonda of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., Joseph Bernard Herman and his wife, Tracie of Zanesville, Ohio, Andrew George Herman and his wife, Roberta of Olney, Phillip Matthew Herman and his wife, Debra of Allen, Texas, and Mark Justin Herman of Olney; three daughters, Julianna Marie Huckaba and her husband, Terry of Lebanon, Ohio, Katherine Joanne Weber and her husband, Kevin of Indianapolis, Ind. and Mary Elizabeth Totten  and her husband, Tim of Noble; three brothers, Paul Herman of Gaylord, Mich., George Herman of Olney and Frank Herman of Xenia; six sisters, Lucille Bigard of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., Edna Brian of Olney, Theresa Chaplin of Olney, Delores Francis of Goshen, Ind., Ruth Rzeppa of Algonac, Mich. and Freda Miller of Rochester;  ten grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and two  great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
