Rex Sloan

Dewey “Rex” Sloan, 80 of Olney, formerly of Auburndale, Florida died Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Mary Burgin Boarding Home in Olney.  Funeral services at Stasi-Grove Funeral Home in Olney with Rev. Darrell Brame, pastor of Elm Street Christian Church, officiating.  Richland County veterans Organizations will perform military rites at the end of the funeral service.  Burial in Auburndale Memorial Park in Auburndale.

Mr. Sloan was born on January 20, 1926 in DuPage County, the son of William Franklin and Lora (Carter) Sloan.  They preceded him in death.

He was a World War II veteran and a carpenter by trade.  He loved to build things and worked through the Florida Laborers Union in Auburndale, Fla.  He loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and attended many club functions.

Mr. Sloan is survived by sister-in-law, Rae Ann Sloan; brothers-in-law, John Leaf and Pat Vail; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harry Sloan, killed during World War II and William “Bill” Sloan; two sisters, Grace Leaf and Orpha Vail and many nieces and nephews.
