Howard Leroy Schilt, 86, of Union Point, Georgia, and formerly of Kankakee, passed away Monday, Sept. 1, 2014 at Greene Point Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Union Point.

He was born Nov. 13, 1927, in Olney, the son of Howard and Vera (Fritschle) Schilt. They preceded him in death. He married Nesta Mann on July 9, 1950, in DeSelm. Nesta preceded him in death. He married Eleanor Kirk on June 20, 1991, in Woodville, Ga. and she resides in Greene County, Ga.

Leroy was a graduate of Olney High School and the University of Illinois.

He was employed by the Ralston Purina Company as a director of regulatory compliance and retired after 36 years of service.

Surviving are his wife, Eleanor, of Greene County, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra (Fred) Nelson, of Punta Gorda, Fla.; granddaughter, Rachel Heeb; and grandsons, Christopher Heeb and Matthew Heeb.

Funeral services at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Life Story Funeral Home. Burial in Mound Grove Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Kankakee.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
