Hazel Balding (Reed)

Mrs. Hazel M. Reed, 84, of Lake City, died early Sunday morning, November 14, 2010 at her residence following an illness of several months.

A native of Albion, Illinois, Mrs. Reed had been a resident of Lake City since 1966 having moved here from Fort Myers, Florida.

She was born March 31, 1926 in Albion, Illinois, the daughter of the late John David & Luella Miller Balding and graduated from high school in Olney, Illinois. She went on to graduate from the Brokaw School of Nursing in Bloomington, Illinois with her R.N. Degree and eventually received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.

She worked for twenty-five years as a registered nurse in the V.A Medical Center's in Atlanta, Georgia and here in Lake City, Florida. Following her retirement from the V.A. system she worked for ten more years with the Tacachale Center in Gainesville, Florida.

Mrs. Reed was a Christian and in her spare time she enjoyed crocheting, working word puzzles, doing Sudoku puzzles, writing poems (several of which have been published) and she was a very talented pianist. Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Mrs. Reed is survived by her three daughters, Suzanne Kaye Shan of Alachua, Florida; Diane Faye Oxford of Covington, Georgia and Michelle Anne Abrajano of Alachua, Florida; her three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
