John V. Smith

John Virgil Smith, 42, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, former Olney resident died Wednesday, November 1, 1967 at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital after a six months illness. He lived in Olney for many years before going to Lawrenceville, where he had lived for the past 17 years. He was an employee of the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital.

His wife, Helen Marlowe Smith is a former Olney resident and is a graduate of the Olney Sanitarium Nurses Training School.

John was born in Sumner on August 23, 1925, a son of Virgil Leo Smith and Nellie Smith, and had lived the past 17 years on Route 2, Lawrenceville.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Nellie Lynch; his wife, Helen Marlow Smith and two sons, John Marlow Smith, a student at Eastern Illinois University at Charleston and Joseph D. Smith at home.

He was a member of the Congregational Christian Church at Olney and was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Smith organized and headed the x-ray department at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services held at the Emmons Funeral Chapel, Lawrenceville with burial in the Sumner Cemetery.
