John Wesley Cazel, 84, of Sullivan, IL, died December 14, 1996, at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur.

He was born February 22, 1912, in Olney, He married Mildred R. Zinkler, December 9, 1939, in Hopkinsville, KY and she preceded him in death February 2, 1980.

He was a retired farmer and a former ag teacher, a member of the alumni association of the University of Illinois, past member of the Sullivan School Board, former member of Moultrie County Farm Bureau, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Olney.

He is survived by two sons, J. Edward and Richard "Dick" Cazel; a daughter, Nancy K. Scates; two sisters, Marie Schultz and Florence Evans; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a brother, and two sisters.

Funeral services were held at McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan with burial in the Arthur Cemetery.
