Nadine Cowling (Home Ec. 1956 & 1957)

Mrs. Nadine Louise (Cowling) Shepherd, wife of Maurice D. Shepherd, a former Mattoon High School instructor, was pronounced dead on arrival at Charleston Community Hospital on Saturday, August 26, 1967.

Mrs. Shepherd, 34, was taken to the hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack at her home.

Mrs. Shepherd was born May 25, 1933 in Albion, Illinois a daughter of Claude and Edith (Merriott) Cowling. She taught Homemaking I and II at East Richland High School in 1956 and 1957.

Her husband, Maurice Shepherd, taught chemistry at Mattoon Senior High School from 1962 until the close of the last school year. He accepted a position at Eastern Illinois University. The Shepherds had moved to Charleston from Mattoon a week ago.

Besides her husband and parents, she leaves three children, Donna Louise, David Russell and Daniel Wayne, all at home; and a sister, Mrs. Marjorie Feller of Cissna Park.

Her body was taken to the Ingram Funeral Home in Albion, IL for services there.
