Woman Killed, Five Hurt in Accident

An Olney woman was killed and five people were injured in a two-car accident in Richland County, an Illinois State Police spokesman said.

Laurie B. Hixon, 30 died after her car was struck by a car driven by Eleanor Hoff, 70, of Olney at 9:35 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of U.S. 50 and a country road about two miles east of Olney. Police said Hoff ignored a stop sign and struck Hixon’s vehicle, which was eastbound on U.S. 50.

Hixon was pronounced dead at Richland Memorial Hospital. Passengers in Hixon’s car who were injured included R. Joanne Satterthwaite, 69 of Lawrenceville and Barbara Hixon, 63, Tonya Gates, 12 and Ian Gates, 6 all of Claremont. Hoff was also injured. All were taken to Richland Memorial Hospital.  Hoff was cited for disobeying a stop sign.

Laurie Beth Hixon, 30, of Claremont died at Richland Memorial Hospital Saturday, June 3, 2000 following an automobile accident.  Burial in Antioch Cemetery in rural Claremont.

Ms. Hixon was born August 23, 1969 the daughter of Raymond and Barbara (Allen) Hixon.

She was a homemaker and loving mother of two, as well as a devoted daughter and sister. She will be sorely missed by all. She was a member of Claremont PTO and Eureka Church of Christ in Claremont. She worked at Pine Lawn Nursing Manor in Sumner.

Ms. Hixon is survived by two children, Tonya and Ian Gates, both at home; the children's father, Jimmy Gates; five brothers, Jim and Lynette Hixon, Jerry and Gail Hixon, Mike and Becky Hixon, Steve Hixon and Tom and Kathy Hixon; one sister, Patty and Jeff Inyart; grandmother, Bernice Allen and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by grandfathers, Charles Hixon and William Allen; grandmother, Cora Hixon.
