In Memory

Harold "Harry" Davis - Class Of 1984

Harold Harry Davis

Harold ‘Harry’ Davis, 57, went to sleep in his home on April 6, 2022 and woke up in heaven in the arms of Jesus, ready to join St. Michael’s army.

He was born March 23, 1965 to Roy and Elizabeth Davis in Flint, MI. He married the love of his life, Gina (Niemerg) Davis April 17, 1999 at St. Michael’s Church in Sigel. Together they enjoyed life, traveled, spent time with family, and fostered children.

Harold had the gift of gab and a sharp sense of humor. If he teased you, that meant that he liked you. And he teased his wife a lot. He was a lover of all animals, except snakes, and enjoyed spending time with his many cats and dogs throughout his life.

From a young age Harold had a passion for service and a protector of life. He proudly worked in several law enforcement agencies including Olney City Police, IL Dept of Corrections, St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital security, Stevens Industries security, and the Department of Homeland Security after the 9/11 attacks. He also previously worked as a cook for the local area Catholic priests and was blessed to be surrounded by such great examples of Christ’s love and companionship.

He never knew a stranger and would often honk at random people while driving and wave at them, just to brighten their day. He was a member of St. Michael’s Parish in Sigel and looked forward to receiving Jesus as often as possible. He appreciated the staff at Davita Dialysis in Effingham who did their best to lighten his load and make him smile during his dialysis treatments.

Harold’s favorite past time was watching all his nieces and nephews grow up around him. He was so proud of all of them and loved watching all their school activities. He would want them all to know how much he loved them all. Now he will be watching from the best seat in the house. Even when his physical body started failing, he always remained positive and his spirit never faded. He was always thankful to everyone who lent a helping hand, stopped by to visit, or just called to say hi.

He is survived by his wife, Gina (Niemerg) Davis of Sigel; sister, Denise Davis and niece Jennie Davis both of Vincennes, IN; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Tom and Jo Ann Niemerg of Sigel; sisters-in-law, Melissa (Chad) Armstrong of Watson, Sara (Tom) Young, and Andrea (Tony) Lindsay of rural Neoga; and brother-in-law, Albert (Heather) Niemerg of Springfield IL; and 14 nieces and nephews.

Harold is preceded in death by his father, Roy Davis; mother, Betty Davis; brother, Charles Davis; and many of his four-legged fur children.

A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 11 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sigel, with a rosary at 9:45 a.m. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery in Sigel.
