W. R. McIntosh (Principal 1932-1942)

William Ray “W.R.” McIntosh, 86, of Sarasota, Florida, a former Superintendent of Decatur Public Schools, died February 12, 1986 in his home. Services in Florida, body cremated with inurnment in Sarasota Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. McIntosh was born July 7, 1899 in Steeleville, Illinois, son of William David and Eudora McIntosh. He married Laura Schramm in 1923, she died 1985.

He served in the field of education as a teacher, principal and superintendent for more than 40 years and was a math instructor and Principal in Olney from 1931-1942. He was principal of Stephen Decatur High School and an assistant superintendent of Decatur Public Schools from 1942-1944 and superintendent from 1944 to 1950. He was a past president of Illinois Education Association.

Survivors are his daughter, Jeane M. Gazdag of Sarasota and New York and sister, Mildred Summit of Miwaukee, Wisc.
