Gary Bissey

Gary Wayne Bissey, 43, of Olney, died Monday, February 22, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.  Burial in Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney.

Gary was born May 6, 1966, in Aberdeen, Md., the son of Larry P. and Shirley K. (Williams) Bissey. He married Angela K. Whitehead on December 10, 1994.

He graduated from East Richland High School in 1984. He received both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Eastern Illinois University. He was an Assistant Quality Manager at Hella Electronics in Flora. He served for 22 years as a volunteer fireman for Olney Fire Department. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Olney.

Gary is survived by his wife, Angela K, Bissey; son, Anthony, 10, of Olney; mother, Shirley K. Bissey; mother-in-law, Joyce Whitehead; brothers, Gregory P. Bissey and his wife, Rayna, of Effingham, and Grady Bissey and his wife, Jessica, of Edinburgh, Ind.; sister, Beverly and her husband, Colin Bower, of Mt. Carmel; brother-in-law, Walton Whitehead, of Albion; nieces, Rachel Arnold, Clare Whitehead and Clara Bissey; nephews, Cole Whitehead, Landon Bissey, Addison and Adrian Bower; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry P. Bissey, of Calhoun; father-in-law, Robert C. Whitehead, of Albion; grandparents, Milnor and Verda Bissey, of Clay City; grandmothers, Velma Williams, of Calhoun; grandfather, C.L. Williams, of Olney; and great-grandparents, Louis and Anna Haenggi.

Memorials may be given to Dr. Steven Curly at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, the Kanzius radiofrequency device (Gary had hoped to be one of the first to benefit from this research), or First United Methodist Church in Olney.
