Man Killed in Motorcycle Wreck

A 54-year-old Olney man died about 12:46 p.m. Wednesday when his 1995 Honda Goldwing motorcycle was hit head-on by a car on Illinois Rte 16 about a half-mile east of Gays, Illinois in Moultrie County, according to the Illinois State Police.

Kendal J. Jones died at the scene. State Police said Jones was heading east when a car driven by Trevan M. Baxley, 33, of Greenwood, MO, crossed the center line for an unknown reason and hit Jones’ motorcycle.

Baxley was cited for failure to wear a seatbelt and improper lane usage.

Kendal Jack Jones, 54, of Olney, IL died  September 13, 2006 in Coles County.

He was born April 2, 1952 in Richland County, the son of Harrison Edwin Sr. & Rosa Marie Bunting Jones. He married Janet Weiler on August 22, 1973.

He worked as a telecommunications installer, tool and die maker at Champion Laboratory in West Salem, an oil field worker, design engineer & plant manager at Sparton Mfg. in Flora, and was a computer technician.

He owned and operated the Omega Line BBS, the first internet service in southeastern Illinois, and Cruzin' Time Cyber Coffee House in Olney.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Katherine Davis, Kalenda Jones, and Serena Jones; two brothers, Steven and Tim Jones; three sisters, Juanita Slunaker, Loretta Mitchell, and Janice Kern; one grandson and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, Alice Jones; a brother, Harrison Jones Jr., and one infant brother, Michael Keith Jones.

Memorial services were at Summers-Kistler in Olney with Rev. Father Jerry Wirth officiating.
