Billy Don Campbell

Billy Don Campbell, 77, of Mode, IL, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2022 in his residence. Bill was born on April 27, 1945 in Olney, IL, the son of John and Virginia (VonAlmen) Campbell.

He graduated from East Richland High School in Olney, IL in the Class of 1963. Bill went on to serve in the United States Army, 101st Airborne Division, as a paratrooper during the Vietnam War, and received a Purple Heart for his service. Bill later continued his education at Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO, and Sangamon State University in Springfield, IL, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.  Bill worked as a Mental Health Specialist at Adolf Meyer in Decatur, IL and later worked for the Illinois Department of Public Aid in Charleston, IL. Bill enjoyed riding horses, spending time outdoors, and he loved his family. Bill loved Jesus and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Billie Dawn Black of Pigeon Forge, TN; sons, Colin Campbell of Charleston, IL and Matt Greenberg of Paxton, IL; sister, Jeanna Welton (Harold) of Mode, IL; eight grandchildren, including, Nicole Black of Pigeon Forge, TN, Hunter Black of Pflugerville, TX, and Cameron Black of Ft. Campbell, KY; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Campbell; mother, Virginia Chandler; brothers, Joe, Richard, and Charles Campbell; and sister, Jeanne Campbell.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at a later date.

Its sad to hear another classmate has gone, so many memories. Stop to think of all the good timnes we had together as we go about our busy lives, not realizing we are about the same age.  So rest in peace Bill.
