J. H. Cherry (Principal 1946-1948)

J. H. Cherry, 54, a native of Herrick, Illinois died Thursday, August 1, 1963 in Carle Hospital, Urbana, Illinois. Burial in Price Cemetery near Herrick, Illinois.

James Harrison Cherry was superintendent of the Clay City schools form 1935-1942, and principal of the Olney High School from 1942 until 1948, coming to Olney from Clay City. Mr. Cherry was superintendent of the Urbana Schools and had held that position since July 1960.

Mr. J. Harrison Cherry was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy, serving in the South Pacific war theatre in 1944. He resigned his position to enter the service and was stationed at Norfolk, Va. before leaving on the voyage which took him into the Pacific.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Cherry; one son, J. H. Cherry III of Clinton and a daughter, Harriett Mahanna of Champaign and three grandchildren.
