Iola Eluria "Lora" Doan (Dowty) - Class Of 1940

Lora Dowty, 91, of Claremont, died Thursday, November 22, 2012, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Ind.  Funeral services at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home with Reverend Scott Carlson officiating. Burial in Haven Hill Memorial Gardens in Olney.

Mrs. Dowty was born February 28, 1921, in Richland County, the daughter of Raymond E. and Iola (Farquhar) Doan. She married Lester Dale Dowty on April 12, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo. He preceded her in death on March 28, 2009.

She was a cook at Claremont Elementary School and worked at Berry's store in Claremont. She was a devoted mother and housewife. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Olney.

Mrs. Dowty is survived by her son, Gary Dowty and his wife, Mary, of Olney; son, Larry Dowty and his wife, Janet, of Claremont; daughter, Judith Umfleet, of Olney; daughter, Linda Gumble and her husband, Harry, of Lancaster, Tenn.; sister, Katherine Oney, of St. Louis; sister, Ruth Lyke, of Florida; sister, Betty Rosafort, of New York; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Iola Doan; husband, Lester Dale Dowty; son-in-law, Jerry Umfleet; grandson, Eric Doser; brothers, Robert Doan, Raymond Doan, Donald Doan, Frank Doan, Paul E. Doan and Jim E. Doan; and sisters, Eleanor Doan Huff and Joan Doan Satterthwaite.
