Beatrice Roberta "Bertie" Childers, 73, of Mt. Carmel, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, at Welborn Baptist Hospital in Evansville, Ind.  Services at Short Funeral Home in Mt. Carmel. Burial in Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Childers was born April 21, 1923, in Sumner, the daughter of Earl and Laura (Tredway) Wright. She married Lee Childers Nov. 9, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo.

She was a homemaker and was a member of First General Baptist Church in Mt. Carmel.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Gary Childers, of London, England, Richard "Rick" Childers and his wife, Marilou, of Mt. Carmel, and Steven Childers and his wife, Thelma, of Charleston; one brother, Bernard Wright, of Little Rock, Ark.; five grandchildren, Melissa, Ashley, Tracey, Jennifer and Mark; and three great-grandchildren; Heather Hudgins, Mark Childers Jr. and Ashlie Childers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and a sister.
