Glenn Waxler

Glenn L. Waxler, DVM, Ph.D., 82, of Haslett, Mich. and formerly of Olney died Saturday March 3, 2007.

Dr. Waxler was born February 24, 1925 in Olney, the son of George Allen and Hazel (Nicholas) Waxler. He married Gwendolyn McKinley on April 28, 1946. She survives.

He received his DVM degree from University of Illinois in 1953. He was the first veterinary student at U of I to achieve all-university scholastic recognition by having his name inscribed on the Bronze Tablet, a monument to the most academically distinguished students of the university.

After graduation he spent four years in private practice. In 1957 he and his family moved to Michigan State University where he received his master's and Ph.D. degrees, and attained the level of full professor in 1966. He was board certified by American College of  Veterinary Pathologists, received national recognition for his work with germ-free swine and acted as major professor for many veterinary graduate students.

He was a charter member of University United Methodist Church. He enjoyed his family, woodworking, fishing, traveling and photography.

Dr. Waxler is survived by his wife of almost 61 years, Gwen; daughters, Susan Stahl and Karol Mikula; grandchildren; brother, Robert Waxler; sister-in-law, GeorgeAnn Waxler; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister; and brother, Gordon.
