Gun Shot Wound Fatal to Salisbury - Chester Warren Salisbury, 25 died Saturday evening, June 22, 1946 at Olney Sanitarium from accidental shot gun wounds, the accident occurring earlier Saturday afternoon at the home of his sister, Mrs. Elsie Woods, near Bogota.

Coroner’s jury returned a verdict of accidental death.  The accident happened when Salisbury attempted to take the shot gun from the back seat of a car, and with the muzzle of the gun pointing toward him it was accidentally discharged, the shot entering his abdomen and spine.

His sister, Mrs. Woods, heard the shot and ran to his assistance, summoning Dr. Kent Wattleworth of Newton before he was brought here by ambulance.

Salisbury was born January 30, 1921 a son of Chester L. and Katie (Dunkel) Salisbury.

Salisbury had been making his home with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Woods, near Bogota, since receiving his discharge from the Army several months ago, after having served three and one-half years, three years of which were spent in the African-European war theatre.

He is survived by his father, C. L. Salisbury of Olney; two sisters, Mrs. Gilbert Woods and Mary Catherine Eckel of Bogota;  six brothers, Rolla and Eugene Francis of Morrisonville, Earl, Wayne and Lyle of Olney and Harold of Salt Lake City, Utah.

He is preceded in death by his mother in 1940.

Funeral services were held from the Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Newton American Legion in charge.  Burial at Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney.
