Jack Stivers

GRAHAM -- Jack Stivers, 79, an oil producer, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at a Fort Worth hospital. Burial: Pioneer Cemetery.

Mr. Stivers was the son of Lola Conour Stivers and Albert Stivers.

He graduated from Olney Township High School in 1940. Upon graduation, he went to work for National Supply Co. On Dec. 23, 1941, Mr. Stivers married Wilma McWilliams in St. Louis, Mo.

On Jan. 19, 1943, he joined the Navy and was discharged Nov. 30, 1945. He participated in the Normandy invasion and the European and Asiatic Pacific theaters. He was awarded three battle stars and a Victory Medal. Mr. Stivers moved to Abilene in 1950, where he and an associate formed Miami Oil Producers Inc. He was vice president and later president of the Company. In 1975 the company was moved to Reno, Nev. The company was active in drilling and drilled wells in the United States, Canada and Alaska. In 1992 Mr. Stivers retired from Miami Oil Producers Inc., moved to Possum Kingdom Lake and formed Stivers Inc., with offices at 216 Oak St. in Graham. In 1995 he and Mrs. Stivers established their residence in Graham at 925 Kintner Drive. Mr. Stivers was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Graham; Texas Alliance Energy Producers; Texas Independent Producers & Royalty Association; Young County Masonic Lodge No. 485; Elks Lodge #1480, Breckenridge; Suez Shriners, San Angelo; Grand Commandery of Knight Templar of Illinois; Gorin Commandery No. 14 K.T.; and Royal Arch Masons of Illinois. He had served as a director and Nevada Vice President of Independent Petroleum Association of Mountain States.

Survivors: Wife of 61 years, Wilma Stivers; sons, David Alan Stivers of Katy and Danny Keith Stivers of Graham; daughter, Deborah Sue Stivers of Washingtonville, N.Y.; and grandchildren, Christina Allison Stivers, Jack Alan Stivers and Michael Evan Stivers.
