Betty Schneiter Powhatan Class of '40Betty Lou Powhatan, 94, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Indian River Medical Center.  A memorial service celebrating her life at First Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach.

Betty was born daughter of Raymond S. and Margaret Lytle Schneiter, in Olney, and moved to Vero Beach in 1969.

Shortly after she married her husband Robert, they purchased a small grocery store where they steadily worked side by side, an aspect of their relationship that was woven into their  lives. After the grocery business, they worked 20 years together in the appliance and music business in Illinois. Upon moving to Vero Beach, she worked with him in real estate.

Betty was a long-standing member of First Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach, where she served as a Deacon. Betty was also a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, having joined in 1943, and remained active until her death.

Survivors include her daughters, Becky Powhatan (Mark) Kelley, of Atlanta, and Mary Margaret (Patrick) Hallgren, of Orlando, Fla.; sister, Gloria Welch, of Norman, Okla.; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Powhatan, and son, Robert Scott Powhatan.
