George Jolly Weber (Matthews)

George Jolly (Weber) Matthews was born on December 13, 1919 in Olney, Ill., the daughter of Dr. James Weber and Eugenia (Powers) Weber.

George Jolly (Dordie) moved to Monroe, Mich., when she married Robert Rye on March 18, 1944. She raised four children with Bob in Monroe until his death in 1987. She married Vincent Matthews in 1989 and moved to Loudon, Tenn., to be with him until his death in 1995. She continued to live in Loudon, Tenn., until her death at Independence Village in Frankenmuth, Mich., on August 20, 2012.

She is survived by two daughters, Chris (Larry) Novak, of Bridgeport, Mich., and Sue (Roesssing) Hays, of Tampa, Fla.; one son, Pat Rye, of Vero, Fla.; three stepchildren; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Redman and Eugenia (Puzi) Edmiston, of Olney, Ill.

In addition to Robert Rye and Vincent Matthews, she was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Angela Herald Knabe, her parents, three brothers, and one sister.

George Jolly was cremated by Sunset Hills Association in Flint, Mich. A family memorial will be held at a later date.
