Susan Cordier (Hinderliter)

Susan Marguerite (Cordier) Hinderliter, 64, of rural Albion, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2012, at her residence.  Funeral services at First United Methodist Church in Grayville. Burial  in Harrison Cemetery in Lancaster.

Susan was born March 22, 1947, in Olney, the daughter of Robert and Cleo (Steffee) Cordier. She married Wayne Eugene Hinderliter December 19, 1970, at Elm Street Christian Church in Olney.

She was a long time elementary teacher. For the past 10 years, she has been associated with Wabash Valley and Frontier colleges as a quilting instructor. She did a fine job of keeping the farm records, operating tractors, trucks and helping show cattle for many years.  Her hobbies include quilting, baking and collecting antiques. She loved her family dearly and especially her three grandchildren. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Grayville, where she was active in the United Methodist Women's Society. In 1975, she was awarded Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America. In 2001, Susan was named Shorthorn Lassie of the Year by the Shorthorn Lassie Association. In 2011, she received a Special Mission Recognition Award by the United Methodist Women.

Left to cherish her beautiful memories are her husband of 41 years, Wayne; a daughter, Holly (John) Spangler, of Marietta; a son, Douglas (Katie) Hinderliter, of Albion; three grandchildren, Jenna, Nathan and Caroline Spangler; and a sister-in-law, Jean Hinderliter, of Albion.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Cleo Cordier.
