Olney Man, 29, Dies In Apartment Blaze

A 29-year-old Olney man was killed in a late night fire at his apartment at 334 W. North Ave. Teddy R. Shultz died from smoke inhalation as a result of a fire reported to the Olney Fire Department at 11:34 p.m. Sunday, said Richland County Coroner, Randy Kistler.

Shultz’s body was found in the living room. The coroner pronounced him dead at the scene at 12:15 a.m. Monday.

The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze. It apparently began in the living room and may have involved a floor-type furnace in the living room, Kistler said.

Shultz was home alone at the time. No one was home in a second apartment in the converted house. There was smoke damage to the other apartment.
