Jill Rubsam

Jill Dianne Rubsam, 48, of Athens, died Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.  Services at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield with Rev. Peter Harman officiating. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Ms. Rubsam was born on March 5, 1960, in Effingham, the daughter of Walter and Doris Hanna Rubsam. She lived in the Springfield area since 1983.

She was a clerk at St. John's Hospital since 1984, last working in the surgery department and as needed in Cardiac Recovery Unit. She formerly worked in ICU. She also substitute taught for Springfield School District from 1983-1984 and also was a private tutor. She was of the Catholic faith. She was a member of the Illinois Horse and Pony Breeders and Exhibitors and a former member of the American Saddle Horse Association. She loved sewing, especially costumes and surgery scrub caps. She played the French horn in municipal bands in Flora and Olney and at Eastern Illinois University in the marching band. She graduated from East Richland High School in 1978, Olney Central College in 1980, and Eastern Illinois University in 1983 with a Biology and Zoology major and received her teaching certificate.

Ms. Rubsam is survived by her mother, Doris Rubsam, of Olney; sisters, Sharon Rubsam, of Cantrall, and Gail Rubsam, of Cantrall; brothers, Tony Rubsam and his wife, Marsha, of Effingham, and Brad Rubsam and his wife, Wendy, of Olney; several aunts and uncles; and her American Saddle Bred horse, Dewey.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Rubsam.
