Jay "The Gas Man" Jones, 62 of Olney, Illinois, took his final lap and won the big race on Friday, December 23, 2022 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. Jay was born November 4, 1960 in Olney, the son of Charles and Virginia (Steuber) Jones.

Jay was a welder and fabricator for most of his life, and he raced cars from the moment he could reach the pedals. His kids and grandkids were his pride and joy. Jay was a master of most trades, and he was naturally skilled at just about any task. He had an innate ability to just figure it out. He made an impression on whoever he met, and he lived life on three wheels. Jay will be missed dearly by all those that knew and loved him.

Jay is survived by his mother, Virginia Jones; his children, Jason Jones, Jerrica Gwyn, Justin (Lea Ann) Jones; grandchildren, Trevor Jones, Landyn Jones, Jaylen Gwyn, Ally Jones, Jacob Gwyn, and Jaytin Jones; siblings, Jill (George) Fritschle and Jodi (Buddy) Brown, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Jones, brother, Joe Jones, and his grandparents.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 30, 2022 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney. Interment will follow at Crest Haven Memorial Park.

In honor of Jay, the family invites guests to dress casually and wear their favorite race shirt to the visitation and funeral service.
