Long-time NEC Sports Writer, Joe Jones Dead at 49

Joe Wayne Jones, 49, the long-time Sports Editor of the Lawrenceville Daily Record, died early today, Friday, October 13, 2000 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital from heart failure.

Mr. Jones was born January 13, 1951 in Olney, the son of Charles R. and Virginia (Steuber) Jones. He married Donna Dean on August 3, 1974 and she survives.

Also surviving are his mother; one daughter, Ashli of Lawrenceville; one brother, Jay of Olney and two sisters, Jodi Brown and Jill Gayer both of Olney.

He was preceded in death by his father.

In addition to his duties at the Daily Record, Mr. Jones was the announcer for the Red Hill Raceway in Sumner. He was also a member of the North Egypt Conference Writers Association.

Funeral services at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville with the Reverend William Dean officiating. Burial in Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
