Fred Wells - Class Of 1967

Fred Wells

Fred WellsFred L. Wells, 64,  went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 4, 2014 at 6:52 p.m. as a result of a heart attack.  He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing and left this earth with a smile of joy on his face.

Fred was born August 8, 1949, son of Sam and Mary Wells.  He married Reva Hallam on December 21, 1969.  Fred and Reva were looking forward to celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary in December of this year.

Fred and Reva were blessed with two children and their spouses whom he loved as his own; Thad & Emily Wells of Mahomet, IL and Emilie & Brian Chase of Bloomington, IL. Fred’s grandson, Cobi Chase, brought him much pleasure and joy.

He is survived by his wife, Reva Hallam Wells, Olney; son, Thad and wife; daughter, Emilie and Brian Chase; grandson, Cobi;  brother, Steve Wells of Boston, MA; sister-in-law, Candi Hallam of Groveland, IL and sister and brother in-law Cathy & Jim Pottorff of Olney, IL,;  nieces and nephews.

Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin, and caring friend. Fred leaves behind the legacy of a much loved family. He was a wonderful role model for his family and those he loved. He was a servant and had a gentle spirit. He extended unconditional love to all, and he chose to serve those around him whether through serving with Kiwanis and as the treasurer at The Master’s Hands, praying for those in need, leading a home Bible study for years, serving on the Richland Memorial Hospital and Richland County Development Corporation Boards, and offering help without being asked.

Fred attended Calhoun Grade School, East Richland High School, OCC, and graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1971. He served in the National Guard during his college years, and after graduation was proud to take a job working for the Department of Defense at the University of Illinois. His career then led him to the Department of Energy in Olney, Senior Partner at Kemper CPA Group, President and Board of Director of the First National Bank of Olney, and as a CPA and consultant for individuals and small businesses.

Fred loved the Lord and the Bible. Fred’s family knows, without a doubt, that he is celebrating with Jesus and all his loved ones who have gone before him. Fred enjoyed being with family and friends most, and he also enjoyed reading, Big 10 basketball, gardening, helping others with personal finances, and studying the Bible.
