TWO CYCLISTS KILLED IN GREENUP CRASH Two Dundas men were killed early today, June 18, 1981 in a three-vehicle accident on Rte. 130 one mile south of Greenup.

Dennis Wilson, 23 and Russell Sterchi, 31 died after the motorcycles they were riding struck a pickup truck driven by Robert Martin, 34, Greenup.  The accident occurred shortly after 2 a.m. today. (June 18, 1981)

A Cumberland County coroner’s spokeswoman said Sterchi apparently died instantly and Wilson died enroute to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham.  Both victims suffered multiple injuries.

Martin was treated and released at St. Anthony’s Hospital.

Sources said the Martin truck reportedly pulled from a county road in front of the motorcycles.   The Cumberland County spokesperson said the motorcycles struck the truck broadside.

Illinois State Police have not indicated whether charges will be filed against Martin.

Russell "Sonny" Sterchi was born in Olney August 17, 1949 to Robert and Floy Shan Sterchi.  They survive.

He married Brenda McKnight July 30, 1977 in Olney.  She also survives.

He was employed by Bob Sterchi Carpet and Tile in Olney and was a member of the First Methodist Church in Olney.  He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Olney Elks.

Survivors include his parents; wife; a sister, Mrs. Dee (Sharon) Waggoner, Claremont and a nephew, David Waggoner, Claremont.
